Before You Hire a Contractor

All building contractors should be licensed by Virginia's Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).
  • A valid Class A license is required of any contractor who undertakes a project that has a total value of $120,000 or more.
  • A valid Class B license is required of any contractor who undertakes a project that has a total value greater than $10,000 and less than $120,000.
  • A valid Class C license is required of any contractor who undertakes a project that has a total value between $1,000 and $10,000.
