About the Department

The Campbell County Public Safety Department serves to provide animal control, emergency medical services, fire suppression and prevention, emergency management and preparedness, and E-911 services to the residents of our locality.

The department is administered using an "all-hazards" emergency management approach. We, as a unit, support and sponsor a wide variety of community education and awareness programs to enhance public understanding of available services and activities relating to emergency planning, preparedness, and prevention.


Emergency services are provided on a 24-hour basis by a volunteer fire and a combination emergency medical services (EMS) system using career and volunteer emergency medical providers. Campbell County is fortunate to be served by a strong volunteer contingent existing of eight volunteer fire departments and three volunteer rescue squads. The department also provides the services of a full-time fire marshal's office to manage fire inspections and investigations.

911 Communications System

An enhanced 9-1-1 emergency communications system allows computer tracking of citizen calls and assists in accurate dispatching and response of fire, rescue, and law enforcement agencies. Under the E-911 system, all roads are named and all structures are assigned a number on roads with three or more habitable dwellings.

The E-911 system also allows for the utilization of emergency medical dispatching (EMD), where a communications officer may provide basic medical instructions to a 9-1-1 caller in order to assist a sick and/or injured person.
