Evacuation Routes
Campbell County Department of Public Safety employs an automated alert system to call citizens’ landline telephones if their respective residences/businesses are forecasted to be impacted by a localized hazard.
For convenience and reference, the following maps and directions have been compiled, based on FEMA’s 100 year flooding scenario. Be aware that there may be specific instructions and alternative evacuation routes for each incident or for other hazards (hazardous materials spills, severe weather outbreaks, etc.). If public safety officials initiate evacuations within the locality, specific steps will be conveyed through local media venues and as well as on the Campbell County/Public Safety webpages.
Please note that Yellow Branch Elementary School
377 Dennis Riddle Road
Rustburg, VA 24588
is designated as the primary Emergency Shelter location in the Campbell County Emergency Operations Plan (PDF).
This sheltering site is located at the intersection of Route 24 and Route 29, south of Lynchburg and north of Altavista. Please be aware that shelter openings and locations may change contingent on specific emergency situations.
Those who reside in close proximity to natural or man-made water sources (rivers, streams, dams, lakes), frequently used railroad tracks, or larger industrial operations should consult with local public safety officials to determine the safest exit routes for their respective areas. Citizens are encouraged to call 511 or visit their website to view up-to-date local road closings.
