In 2014, Brandon was named Homicide Investigator of the Year by the Virginia Homicide Investigator's Association for his diligence and efforts on Campbell County's first "no body homicide," setting a record for the department.

Prior to his appointment as Major/Chief Deputy in 2020 by current Sheriff Whit Clark, he supervised the Criminal Investigations Division.
