During the course of his career, Gary has served in every possible capacity, from investigating wrecks and providing traffic control and speed enforcement to working in specialized investigative units, such as narcotics, hostage negotiations, special weapons and tactics, and undercover operations.
He is certified as a Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) instructor as well as Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) certified.
Previously, Gary served as a School Resource Officer in the Altavista area of Campbell County, where he was able to help coordinate several community events. In 2019, Gary was recognized by the Young Women of Central Virginia (YWCA) as the Outstanding Service Award recipient for providing service to victims of Domestic Violence.
In January 2020, Gary accepted the placement of Sergeant over the Community Relations and Crime Prevention division in Campbell County under the directive of newly elected Sheriff Whit Clark, III.
A pillar of the community, and a leader in his church, Gary enjoys his role as a law enforcement liaison to the public, and looks to expand community relations and crime prevention education in the future.
Gary has two children and six grandchildren, and resides in Altavista.
