[ARCHIVED] Campbell County Recognizes Local Board Members For Their Service To The Community

Board Members final meeting

On Tuesday, December 5, at the Board of Supervisors final meeting of the year, County Administrator, Frank Rogers, recognized and thanked Mr. J.D. Puckett (Brookneal), Mr. Michael "Mike" Rousseau (Timberlake), and Mr. Eric Zehr (Rustburg), for their service, as their terms approach completion.

Supervisor Puckett was first elected to the Board on January 1, 1998 and has served five (5) terms for a total of 20 years on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors. As a lifelong resident of Campbell County, his knowledge and understanding of our local education system along with his agricultural background has brought invaluable insights to the Board. Supervisor Puckett has been a tireless advocate for the Brookneal Election District, the largest district in the County, and for the Town of Brookneal. Two of his greatest accomplishments have been founding and organizing the Campbell County Heritage Festival which held its 9th festival this year, and the development of the Community Park located beside the William Campbell High School. Supervisor Puckett is especially proud of the Community Park Pavilion that was built at the park and was instrumental in the fundraising campaign for the pavilion. During Supervisor Puckett’s tenure, he served as Chairman three times and served on nearly all the various Committees of the County, most notably the Public Safety Committee, Public Works CommitteeCampbell County Utilities and Services Authority and more than 15 years on the Brookneal/Campbell County Airport Authority.

Supervisor Rousseau was elected to the Board on January 1, 2014 and served four years on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Rousseau, a Connecticut native, graduated from Liberty University and returned to Connecticut to attend law school. Following graduation from the University of Connecticut School of Law, he joined the insurance industry. In 2006, he relocated to Campbell County to live and raise his family. He owns and operates Frontline Adjusting, Inc., an insurance claims service.

Supervisor Rousseau, an advocate for a smaller, more efficient government and a supporter of private business and citizens’ property rights, led several actions to minimize governmental regulations and promote business growth. One of his most notable achievements was to bring additional EMS service to the Timberlake District, the most densely populated district in the County. Supervisor Rousseau served as Chairman in 2017 and also served on the Administrative/Human Services Committee, the Public Safety Committee and the Library Board.

Supervisor Zehr was elected to the Board on January 1, 2014 and served four years on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors. Originally from upstate New York, Supervisor Zehr moved to Virginia in 1990 to attend Liberty University. After graduating from Liberty University, he continued his education and received a Masters in Counseling. He owns and operates American Housewash and Wood Care and also serves as the Chairman of the Campbell County Republican Committee.

Supervisor Zehr, also an advocate for fiscal stewardship and reducing regulations to promote business and agricultural growth, likewise served as a strong supporter of the agricultural sector. In an effort to better understand the details of the County budget, he attended not only the Board’s budget work sessions each year, but also the internal budget committee meetings. Supervisor Zehr served as Chairman in 2016, and served on the Administration/Human Services Committee and the Litter Commission. In his four years on the Social Services Board, Supervisor Zehr was notably supportive of the work performed by Social Services to enhance the quality of life for many of our citizens.

Rogers presented each Board Member with a hand-painted ornament with a rendition of the Historic Courthouse, which serves as a landmark for our County Seat, along with the organization's sincere thanks for their dutiful and loyal service.
