From the Fire Marshal
4:00 p.m. Burning Law in effect February 15 — April 30.
Maximum fine: $500.00
In brief:
- No burning until after 4:00 p.m. if within 300 feet of woodland or grass or brushland leading to woodland.
- Fire must be attended at all times if within 150 feet of woodland or grass or brushland leading to woodland.
- No fuel may be added or fire rekindled after midnight.
- Law applies to camp fires, warming fires, brush piles, household trash, stumps, fields of broomstraw and brush, or anything capable of spreading fire.
- Violation of the 4 p.m. law is a class 3 misdemeanor with a fine of not more than $500.
- Building contractors and road construction jobs are not exempt from the 4 p.m. law.
