The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a nationally acclaimed program which enlists older adults to serve as volunteers in their communities. It is the largest older adult volunteer program in the nation and over 300 local volunteers contribute more than 36,000 hours of service annually working in over 50 organizations throughout Central Virginia.
RSVP helps volunteers find a suitable placement that can best utilize the interests and skills of the volunteer.
Placements include:
- Local hospitals
- Community schools
- Area nursing homes
- Libraries
- Museums
- Senior Centers
In addition, volunteers counsel distressed citizens over issues of abuse, taxes and nutrition; sew, knit, play in bands and sing in choral groups.
Volunteer benefits include insurance coverage while volunteering, mileage and meal reimbursements, two annual recognition banquets, a monthly newsletter, Birthday and Holiday greetings and most importantly, a sense of belonging.
