May is Elder Abuse Prevention/Older Americans Month: Campbell County DSS Encourages Public to Advocate for Senior Citizens in the Community
RUSTBURG, VA - As you may be aware, the month of May is Adult Abuse Prevention/Older Americans Month.
During this time we, as a nation, celebrate the contributions and the value of our elders and focus on building the quality of life for all elderly and disabled adults in our community.
In this spirit, the Campbell County Department of Social Services (DSS) would like to ask citizens to help carry forth the message, by doing what you can to remember, and advocate for Sa senior citizen in your own community. If you know of adults who are homebound, living in a facility, those who don't have family or friends that they see regularly or others who should not be forgotten, we encourage you to reach out with a visit, a call, a card, or even a text or email for those that are tech-saavy.
For those that are part of a sorority, fraternity, church group, family or social circle looking for a way to make a difference, even these small things can make life more meaningful for an elderly or disabled individual.
Campbell County DSS also encourages you to share your story as inspiration for others to take on the charge. Consider sharing your advocacy on social media with the hashtag #elderabusepreventionmonth.
Thank you for helping us carry the message, especially during the month of May. If you know or suspect an adult is being abused, neglected or exploited, reports can be made 24/7 to the APS Hotline, 1-888-83-ADULT (1-888-832-3858).
