RUSTBURG, VA - Families visiting the Rustburg Foster Care Visitation Center will now have a refreshed and comfortable space to gather.

This past month, volunteers from the Altavista, Appomattox,  Danville, Farmville and South Boston Wal-Mart retail stores volunteered their time and energy to renovate and refresh the foster care visitation center in Rustburg. This center creates a warm, friendly, and comfortable environment where case workers can meet and talk with foster children and families. 

In addition to providing creature comforts such as child-friendly toys and amenities, Wal-mart also provided new furniture, shelving, and art work to create an inviting space.

"Our staff asked volunteer coordinator, April Clark, to work on this project, and help locate volunteers who would be willing to help create an inviting space for families in our visitation center," said Carol Padgett, Family Services Specialist with Campbell County Department of Social Services (DSS).

"Our visitation trailer is used for our foster children to maintain connections and spend time with their families.  Over the past ten years, this building was primarily supplied with gently used, donated furnishings. Wal-Mart took on the project and sent over a dozen workers from all over the Central Virginia region. Not only did they donate and assemble brand new furnishings - they realized their efforts would provide more than just a comfortable space - a safe space for children to connect during a most trying time," adds Padgett.

Campbell County would like to extend our deepest thanks to these volunteers and Walmart stores for being kind neighbors and supporting our locality’s foster program.
