E-911 DISPATCHER, BRITTANY DAWSON, RECOGNIZED FOR 'SPECIAL DELIVERY'

RUSTBURG, VA - A newborn and her mother are safe - thanks to Dispatcher, Brittany Dawson.  On June 8, 2021, the Campbell County E-911 Center received a call from a person reporting that they were in  labor.

That’s when Dawson performed emergency medical dispatch instructions to help the caller deliver the child.

Campbell County E-911 Center Director Myra Simpson said Brittany's swift action and professional training assisted throughout the birthing process. She encouraged both the caller and mother to stay calm, and reassured them when it became evident the child would arrive before medical teams would make it on the scene.

Dispatcher-assisted childbirths are rare, with only a small number happening in Campbell County each decade - and those rarely occur outside of medical assistance in Campbell County.

For her meritorious efforts, Dawson was awarded the "Stork Pin," a special commendation reserved specifically for dispatchers who successfully aid in the delivery of a baby.  In addition, she was presented not only with flowers, and a certificate of accomplishment, but also had a chance to meet the lovely little girl she helped deliver.

“Brittany is a perfect example of the excellent service our dispatchers provide on every call,” added Simpson. “We wish the family and newborn baby all the best.”
