Campbell County Public Safety Issues Statement on June 17th Fire at Lynchburg Arms & Indoor Shooting Range
RUSTBURG, VA - At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Monday June 17, Campbell County E-911 received a call regarding a building fire at the Lynchburg Arms & Indoor Shooting Range location (113 Sunburst Road).
Units from Campbell County Public Safety (FIRE/EMS and Fire Marshal) as well as Lyn-Dan Heights, and Brookville/Timberlake Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD), and Campbell County Rescue Squad responded initially.
At 4:02 p.m., a Campbell County Public Safety Medic Unit marked on scene with a confirmed fire in the area of the shooting range. When the fire broke out, all employees and customers safely evacuated the building.
Engine 12 arrived on the scene at approximately 4:06 p.m., to begin suppressing the fire. Units worked well into the evening (approximately 9:00 p.m.) to control the fire. Two (2) ladder trucks were used to extinguish the majority of fire once the roof began to fail; no injuries were reported.
During the incident, additional crews from Evington, Forest and Rustburg VFD were requested; Rustburg VFD assisted by staffing the Lyn-Dan Heights fire station.
Following the incident, members of the Campbell County Fire Marshal’s office returned to the scene to begin investigating the cause of the fire. Agents from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) were on scene to assist with the fire investigation and provide resources for the store owner.
During the scene exam it was determined that the fire originated in the attic space above the shooting range. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation; however, the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious.
