Campbell County Sheriff’s Office Advises Residents of Texting Scam
RUSTBURG, VA - Campbell County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert you about a texting scam currently circulating in our community. Scammers are sending fraudulent text messages claiming that the recipient owes unpaid toll fees and must make an immediate payment. These messages often contain a link to a fake website designed to steal personal and financial information. (We attached an example in the comments)
How to Protect Yourself:
Do NOT click on any links in unsolicited text messages.
Verify directly by checking your toll account through the official website or customer service.
Look for red flags such as urgent language, unfamiliar sender numbers, and suspicious links.
Block the sender.
