Campbell County Sheriff’s Office Advises Citizens of Recent Car Thefts; Encourages Residents to Take Extra Caution in Securing Vehicles
RUSTBURG, VA - Recently, Campbell County Sheriff's Office has noticed an uptick in car thefts. Our focus with CARE alerts such as this is to make sure that everyone is informed about what types of crimes are occurring in Campbell County and where they are occurring. Unfortunately, we do have a lot of larcenies from vehicles that occur throughout the year and you will see more alerts like this one.
It's important to remember a few basic things to prevent yourself from becoming a victim to one of thieves such as:
- Lock your car doors;
- Don't leave extra keys in your vehicle;
- Park under or near surveillance cameras; and
- Don't leave cash, or other valuables in plain view inside the vehicle
- Never leave firearms in your vehicles (locked or unlocked) as these are often used to commit violent crimes.
Townhomes and apartment complexes remain the most prevalent targets for these type of larcenies, as the thieves can rob a large number of vehicles at one time. For instance, just this past weekend, a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 truck (VA License Plate 9508XN; gray in color)was stolen from the Duiguid Dr area near Timberlake (a stock photo of the vehicle is shown below).
In addition to the truck being stolen, our deputies have advised that similar larcenies from other vehicles occurred in the same area. If you live in the vicinity of this case, and you have home surveillance cameras, please review them for any suspicious activity. Right now, the best time frame that we have for the larcenies is 6:00 PM on Friday, February 21 to 10:50 AM Saturday, February 22.
Investigator Doyle is handling this case. If you have any information that you would like to provide, you can call him 434-266-4282 or you can contact Central Virginia Crime Stoppers Crime Stoppers at (888)-798-5900. An anonymous tip can also be made online at https://p3tips.com.
