CCSO CARE Alert: New Scam Targets Citizens with Fake Treasury Calls
RUSTBURG, VA - The Campbell County Sheriff's Office wants to alert the public to a new scam targeting residents. Scammers are calling citizens and claiming to work for the Treasury Department, informing victims that their bank accounts have been compromised.
Once trust is established, the scammers instruct victims to withdraw their money from their bank accounts and purchase certified gold bars. After the purchase, a person will meet the victim to pick up the gold, claiming they are keeping it safe for the victim.
Please be advised: This is a scam. Never send money or give gold to anyone over the phone unless you have confirmed their identity through trusted sources. If you receive such a call or have any doubts, contact the Campbell County Sheriff's Office before taking any action. We are here to help you determine if a situation is a scam.
Remember: You will lose your money if you send it or hand over gold to these scammers. Stay vigilant and protect yourself.
