Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Walmart Partner to Offer Drug

Take-Back Day in Campbell County

RUSTBURG, VA - The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Neighborhood Walmart (Timberlake Road), is inviting the community to participate in Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The collection site will be located at the Neighborhood Walmart, 22088 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

This initiative provides residents with a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription medications — no questions asked. The goal is to help prevent medication misuse, accidental ingestion, and environmental contamination caused by improper disposal.

Captain Brian Murray, Public Information Officer for the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, will be on-site to assist and answer questions about the program and its importance to community safety.

“Prescription drug misuse often starts right at home,” said Captain Murray. “By properly disposing of old or unused medications, residents can help keep our families and neighborhoods safe. Events like this are a simple but powerful way to protect our community.”

Participants may bring tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription medications for disposal. Liquids, such as cough syrup, may also be turned in if sealed and in their original container. Vape devices and cartridges will be accepted if the lithium batteries have been removed.
Please note that syringes, sharps, and illicit substances will not be accepted.

This event is part of the DEA’s nationwide effort to combat prescription drug misuse and overdose. During the most recent Take Back Day, Americans turned in over 620,000 pounds of medications, preventing potential misuse and protecting countless lives.

Residents unable to attend can visit www.dea.gov/takebackday for information about additional collection sites and year-round disposal options.
