[ARCHIVED] CCSO Arrests NC Man for Vandalism and Trespassing at Lynchburg Airport

RUSTBURG, VA — On October 23, 2025, at approximately 12:23 a.m., Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Lynchburg Regional Airport following a report of a male subject damaging airport property, including benches and trash cans.

Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect on the premises and observed him forcibly entering a building by breaking out the glass doors. Deputies made contact with the suspect and were able to take him into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as Landen Ray Hayden, age 20, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The investigation determined that Hayden, who was intoxicated at the time, had unlawfully entered airport property and caused significant damage, including overturning several drums containing cleaning fluid used by airport personnel in daily operations.

Arrests and Charges

Hayden was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  • Felony Property Damage

  • Trespassing

  • Underage Possession of Alcohol

  • Public Intoxication

  • Contaminating Waterways

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office continues to work closely with Lynchburg Regional Airport officials as the investigation progresses.

Sheriff Clark commended the swift response of the deputies involved and emphasized the department’s ongoing commitment to protecting public property and ensuring community safety.
