The Campbell County Department of Public Safety urges you to
take precautions to help protect your pets this winter.
Just as cold winter temperatures can be hard on human
health, they can also be hard on the health of your pets. Your dogs and cats
can experience hypothermia and frostbite just like you can.
It’s best to keep your pets indoors when it’s cold,
especially when the temperatures drop below freezing. Though your cats or dogs
have fur, it will not properly protect them.
The ASPCA offers general cold weather safety tips for your
pets on its website. They include the following:

Protecting your dog’s paws during walks
·
Dry they paws off once you get home
·
Keep your dogs and cats away from antifreeze,
which is lethal to them
·
Give your pets warm places to sleep in your
house, off the floor and away from any drafts
·
Never leave your pets in your vehicle for long
periods of time because it can become like a refrigerator
