Campbell County Director of Public Safety Tracy Fairchild is advising county residents against open burning.
Some areas of Virginia are instituting burn bans because of dry weather conditions and high fire danger. While a burn ban is not being instituted at this time in Campbell County, Fairchild believes it is safer not to conduct open burning until fire danger conditions improve.
“Open Burning” is the burning of unwanted materials, such as paper, trees, brush, leaves, grass, and other debris, where smoke and other emissions are released directly into the air.
In autumn, dry conditions combined with colder temperatures can create an environment in which fires, outdoors and indoors, can quickly ignite and spread.
