RUSTBURG, VA —  The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is commending Lieutenant Byrd and K9 T-Bone for their exceptional work that led to the life-saving recovery of a missing 26-year-old female during a multi-jurisdictional search effort.

On January 18, 2026, Lt. Byrd and K9 T-Bone responded to assist a neighboring jurisdiction with a report of a missing woman who had been unaccounted for several hours in freezing temperatures. Upon arrival, Lt. Byrd obtained a scent article from the driver’s seat of the missing individual’s vehicle, which was located near a public park with heavy foot traffic and multiple dogs in the area.

Despite the challenging conditions, K9 T-Bone immediately established a track from the vehicle, leading into the park before making a sharp turn into a wooded area. The trail continued back onto another path and eventually led to nearby railroad tracks. K9 T-Bone followed the track along the center of the tracks for approximately a quarter mile.

While trailing, Lt. Byrd observed a female matching the missing person’s description approximately 100 yards ahead. K9 T-Bone alerted and made contact with the individual, who was found suffering from hypothermia after having jumped into a river. At the time of the recovery, temperatures were approximately 30 degrees, and the woman had been exposed to the elements for several hours. The total trail length was approximately 0.98 miles.

The quick actions and precision of Lt. Byrd and K9 T-Bone directly contributed to the successful recovery and timely medical attention of the missing individual.

RUSTBURG, VA - In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that its deputies will wear special commemorative badges throughout the entire year of 2026.

The custom-designed badges honor America’s Semiquincentennial and reflect the Sheriff’s Office’s continued commitment to service, duty, and the principles on which the nation was founded. Each badge is uniquely personalized with the individual deputy’s name and unit number, underscoring both national pride and personal dedication to public service.

“These commemorative badges represent more than a milestone in our nation’s history—they symbolize the oath our deputies take to uphold the Constitution and serve our community with integrity,” said Sheriff Whit Clark. “Wearing these badges throughout 2026 is a meaningful way for our office to honor 250 years of American independence while recognizing the men and women who continue that legacy of service every day.”

Deputies will wear the commemorative badges during regular duty assignments for the full calendar year of 2026. The badges serve as a visible reminder of the enduring values of freedom, responsibility, and community partnership that guide law enforcement.

RUSTBURG, VA - Field visits for Campbell County’s 2027 General Real Estate Reassessment are underway. These are conducted every four years by state law to determine fair market value of land and properties for equitable taxing purposes. The last reassessment was in 2023.  Campbell County has contracted with Wampler-Eanes Appraisal Group, LTD to conduct on-site visits of each property in the locality. Reassessment field agents will have easy-to-view identification and their vehicles will be properly marked. Photographs may be taken of some properties; however, no interior inspections are necessary.

Appraisers will also adhere to health and safety measures if encountering any property owners during the reassessment process.
